This weekend our Head Coach Jon and I went to New Jersey for a conference with some gym owners from around the world. Over the next few days I’m going to share a few of the many lessons we learned and the first speaker happened to be Jocko Willink. Jocko is an author, podcaster, gym owner, and retired Navy Seal. He’s awesome.
One of the first things he spoke about was what the Navy Seals called “Good Operating Weather”. He said that when it was miserable out and the weather was really bad, he knew he was always at an advantage. His enemy was going to be a little bit softer, a little bit slower, a little bit lazier, and they were going to let there guard down a little bit more. He said, “I know I can go a little bit longer, a little bit stronger, a little bit harder than my competitors can.”
Oftentimes as a former athlete and current small business owner I’ve approached things with a similar mentality. If all things are equal, I’m going to win. I know that I’m always willing to work a little bit harder than others to reach my goals, I know that I’m always willing to hurt and endure a little bit more to win, I know that I’m always a little more disciplined and If I’m feeling this way, then so is everybody else, and I know that I can keep going.
Luckily I don’t have any enemies that I know of but the decks are stacked against most. More temptation, more negativity, more bills and taxes, more foods that are higher in calories, more stress.
So I ask you, are you willing to work through “good operating weather” to reach your goals? To lose that weight, to get that new job, to make more money, to win.
I am. And I hope you are too.
Let’s get it.
