Are you living in the gap?
since December, I’ve been spending way more time than I’m used to in the “gap.”
I just came home last week from 4 days in Chicago surrounded by 1000 fitness coaches and gym owners from all over the world, and it was just what I needed to help me get out of there.
You’re in the “gap” when you’re measuring against your ideal, the future, or comparing yourself to others.
You’re in the “gain” when you’re measuring backwards. The progress you’ve made not how far you still have to go.
If your goal is to lose 30 pounds and you’ve lost 10 in the first 8 weeks; but you’re complaining/mad/sad/frustrated because you’ve only lost 10#; you’re in the GAP.
That’s ok. But you can only stay there for 5 minutes.
Then, get in the GAIN. Measure your progress backwards from where you started. You lost 10 pounds in 8 weeks. Pat yourself on the back, and keep pushing forward because you’re crushing it!
You can expand this “gap” & “gain” to anything, not just your health and fitness.
People that don’t look in the rearview mirror miss a lot.
Steve Jobs said you can only connect the dots if you look behind you.
I’m guilty of this too. Spending way too much time in the gap. But I’m working on it.
What about you?
Stay strong,
Tim.
