How Often Should I Workout?

How Often Should I Workout?

one of the most common questions I get is, “How often should I come to the gym?” And, like with almost everything in fitness, the answer is: it depends.

It depends on your fitness level, your goals, your schedule, and how much you actually enjoy working out. There’s no one-size-fits-all answer, but there are some solid guidelines to help you figure out what’s right for you.

Here’s a quick breakdown:

  • 2x per week – This is a great starting point if you’re new to working out, have a packed schedule, or are just using strength training as cross-training for another sport like running or hiking. Consistency is everything. Two days a week, every week, beats four days a week every once in a while.
  • 3x per week – This is the sweet spot for most people. It’s enough to make noticeable progress, build strength, and improve your fitness without feeling like you live at the gym. It also leaves room for recovery days, which are just as important as the workouts themselves.
  • 4x per week – If you’re looking to speed up your progress or push yourself a little harder, four days a week can be a great option — especially if you’ve been consistent at 2-3 days per week for a few months. It’s enough volume to see faster results without the risk of overtraining.
  • 5x per week – This is more suited for experienced folks training for a specific goal or those who genuinely love being in the gym. At this level, well-structured programming is critical — you don’t want every session to be a high-intensity grind or you’ll quickly burn out.

So what’s the right answer for you?

It’s the one that fits into your life and allows you to stay consistent. The “perfect” plan that you can only stick to sporadically will never beat a “good” plan you can follow week after week.

If you’re not sure how many days a week is right for you, let’s chat. We’ll figure out the balance between what you want, what you need, and what fits your life.
