Why Keeping It Simple, Not Easy, Is the Key to Success — Part 1
If you’re reading this, you’re probably looking to enhance some aspect of your health and fitness. You already understand the importance of consistent exercise, making smart food choices, and other healthy habits. What you’re really searching for is how to make living a healthier lifestyle more manageable.
We all want things to be easy—whether it’s earning money, building strong relationships, succeeding at work, or staying fit. “Easy” is appealing because it suggests that we can achieve our goals without much effort. But here’s the catch—“easy” rarely leads to real growth or lasting satisfaction.
So why are we emphasizing the idea of “keeping it SIMPLE, not EASY,” especially when it comes to fitness, nutrition, and healthy living? It’s because true success doesn’t come from taking the easy route; it comes from embracing simplicity without expecting it to be effortless.
Instead of wishing for results that come without effort, what if you aimed for simplicity? It’s important to note that “simple” and “easy” are not the same. “Simple” means something is straightforward or uncomplicated, but that doesn’t mean it’s achieved without effort.
In fitness and nutrition, people often confuse simple with easy. There’s a common misconception that to see real results, the plan or program you follow must be complex, time-consuming, or expensive. This misunderstanding can lead to frustration and a belief that only complicated methods are effective.
But the truth is, that complicating things often leads to inconsistency, which is the real barrier to success. If your workout routine or nutrition plan is too complex, it becomes difficult to maintain, especially when life gets busy.
1. Prioritize Consistency
Consistency is the key to success in any area of life, but maintaining it can be challenging, especially if your approach isn’t simple. Whether it’s your fitness routine, diet, or overall lifestyle, simplicity makes consistency possible. If your workout requires a lot of fancy equipment, 90 minutes, or strict adherence to a complicated plan, it becomes harder to stay consistent.
Consider simplifying your routine: If you have space to do some pushups or a set of stairs, you’ve got a workout. If you’ve got a backpack, you’ve got a way to add resistance. Ten minutes might seem short, but on a tough day, a simple 10-minute workout can be just what you need.
Try this:
10 Minutes
10 Burpees
15 Situps
Or if you’re a client of ours you can just come into the gym and hit just the conditioning or strength work for the day and be in and out in 30 minutes or less with Open Gym Access.
2. Embrace the Challenge
The “not easy” part is where the real growth happens. It’s about challenging yourself, even when things get tough. Whether that means sticking to your workout on a stressful day or maintaining your nutrition plan during a busy week, the willingness to push through these challenges leads to real, lasting results.
You can build a sustainable, healthy lifestyle by focusing on simplicity and embracing the challenges. This approach will help you achieve and maintain your goals over the long term.
