a few pieces of advice for 2024πŸ’₯

I’ve got a simple question for you today:

If you look back on 2023 and your current health and fitness levels, are you where you want to be?

If the answer is no, what are you going to do about it this year?

I’ll give you a few tips from over 15 years of experience of working with people in similar storylines as you:

  • Don’t expect to upheave everything all at once. This is really unnecessary and doesn’t typically work.
  • You don’t have to be a hero and hit the gym 6x in a week. 3x is better, but 2x is a great start.
  • Get rid of all the junk food in your house today. Not tomorrow, not next weekend,.. today.
  • Have a conversation with your spouse/partner/kids/whoever — and tell them this is important to you and you’re going to start doing some things differently. Their support in this is key. They don’t need to do it with you, but they do need to support you. “You look fine how you are,” is not an acceptable answer from your spouse. This isn’t just about looks, this is about being around, healthy, and capable many years ahead.

And last:

Whether you start on January 1st, January 25th, March 30th, June 14th, or August 29th — it doesn’t matter.

There’s only one word in that sentence that matters: Start.

If what you tried in the past didn’t work for you, try something else.

My best piece of advice as you plan for this next phase of your life: Find a coach.

Access to equipment isn’t enough. A diet found on the internet or through a friend also isn’t enough.

It’s not the equipment and it’s not the information that will help you get through the hurdle that caught you last time.

Someone to hold you accountable, work through your barriers with you, and show you how to make it work is the key you missed last time.
